Want to lose weight? Change the way you think!

There are hundreds of weight loss strategies out there, but if you really want to succeed, you need to have the right mindset.

According to many weight loss professionals, one of the biggest influences in losing weight is your mindset. You must have the right inner resolve and intentions if you expect to transform yourself physically.

The problem is that most people trying to lose weight start out with the worst state of mind possible. Often, they believe that there is something wrong with them and they need to fix themselves. This is when people dive into exercise and diet plans, call themselves fat, and become obsessed with results. This can be dangerous and destructive, and it often leads to failure.

Changing your attitude does not just serve to make you feel better. It actually leads to better weight loss results, according to research from Syracuse University. The study shows that the more dissatisfied a woman is with her body, the more likely she is to avoid working out.

Meanwhile, a study published in the International Journal of Obesity shows that simply thinking you are overweight leads to actual weight gain.

How can you go about changing the way you think in order to have more success losing weight? Here are some really effective tips.

Modify your goals.

Your goal really should not be to lose weight – that should be the end result. Instead, you should focus on smaller, more sustainable goals such as eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day or working out for 20 minutes every morning. Make a list of smaller, easier-to-achieve goals and you will be on your way.


Surround yourself with positivity.

You do not have time for negativity! Surround yourself with positive people and never be afraid to ask for help. A healthy environment is the best environment in which to lose weight.


Slow it down and just breathe.

At the beginning of every day, simply take a moment to slow down and focus on breathing. You can even do this before you work out. This simple act can help you connect your mind and body, lower your body’s stress response, and allow you to clear your mind.


Be patient. Patience is a virtue.

This is particularly true when you are trying to lose weight. Doing it slowly is healthy; you should never lose a lot of weight very quickly. Focus on your small goals, and you will see better results.


Avoid the scale. The scale is your enemy.

Losing weight should not always be based on a number. In fact, as you work out more and more, you will be building muscle, which is actually heavier than fat. This means you might weigh more yet still be thinner than you used to be!

The trick to losing weight goes beyond simply eating right and exercising. It really boils down to your state of mind. If you want to lose weight, be sure to keep your head in the right place!
